Roanoke, VA – November 18, 2024 –Veracity is pleased to announce Ironton City School District has selected Veracity’s Technology Management SystemTM (TMS) to comply with Ohio Senate Bill 29 (SB29). The district is part of the Tri-State Metropolitan Area, serving approximately 1,300 students within its three schools: Ironton Elementary, Middle, and High School.
With SB29 going into effect October 24, 2024, Ironton’s Technology Coordinator, Joel Utsinger, quickly executed a plan to comply with the mandate for stronger student data privacy and greater parental visibility. The bill, aimed to improve data protection and cybersecurity, requires schools and technology providers to be transparent about how they collect data and prohibits the use of data for non-educational purposes. It limits device monitoring, increases parental notification, and ensures appropriate security safeguards in contracts with technology providers.
Utsinger turned to Veracity’s Technology Management System to accomplish several key initiatives, including SB29 compliance. “Our top priority is SB29 compliance. The Public Catalog will enable us to list each technology, share privacy policies/agreements and more, without having to duplicate work on our website. It’s a win-win,” explained Utsinger.
“Not only will Ironton City Schools quickly comply with this new state legislation, but the team will also build awareness within its own staff and consistency in technology onboarding processes moving forward,” stated Veracity’s Chief Revenue Officer Amy Robertson. “Being able to monitor spending and renewals will also empower Mr. Utsinger to confidently address the Board with technology investment decisions.”
The team begins implementation this week and is eager to build their catalog of more than 175 software applications. Utsinger does not see SB29 as a challenge now that the team has Veracity; instead, he’s embracing it and welcoming the opportunity ahead for growth, efficiency, and transparency.
